Person of interest in Worcester fatal stabbing has violent priors, police say

WORCESTER, Mass. — A 34-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in a bedroom in Worcester Wednesday night, according to police.

Police responded to a call about a stabbing on Lapierre Street around 10:30 p.m. and found the woman with multiple stab wounds in a bedroom, according to a Worcester Police news release. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Worcester Police say they are looking to speak with 36-year-old Thomas Bergstrom in connection with the stabbing.

Bergstrom was arrested in another, separate violent case in January, where he was accused of raping a woman at knifepoint and charged with aggravated rape, kidnapping, assault and battery.

Police have not yet released information on the relationship Bergstrom has, if any, to the victim, nor have they released a potential motive for the crime.

Neighbors say they're on edge after what happened just down the street.

"It’s frightening, actually," said :Lynn Pieczarka, a neighbor. "There isn’t even much noise in this neighborhood, let alone crime."

"We never used to lock our doors, to be honest, but we started today," said Ethan LaFleur, a neighbor.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim's name has not been released.
