(MyFoxBoston.com) Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito toured the South Shore on Wednesday to see the mess left behind by the Blizzard of 2015, and Baker said he would seek federal assistance to help with the clean up.
Both Marshfield and Scituate saw significant flooding after two high tides sent the ocean over into streets.
The storm surge caused a seawall in Marshfield to collapse. Eleven homes were damaged as the debris littered across the neighborhood.
In Scituate, people living near Turner Street were forced to evacuate as water from the ocean went up into the street and into homes. Things were so bad that the National Guard had to come in to rescue people from the rising flood waters. About 16 people were forced to spend the night at a shelter at Scituate High School.
Across the area, power lines were down, and many residents reported frozen pipes in their homes.
Baker said it would help for more equipment to be sent to the area to help clean up, but the process will still be considerable.
