A Grand A Mile: Julie and Rob's Marathon Story

DEDHAM — Julie Grauert is one of the familiar faces you wake up to on Boston 25 Morning News. She met her boyfriend Rob Summers, eight years after he was paralyzed in a hit-and-run accident.

UPDATE: Julie and Rob both finished Sunday's marathon. Boston 25's Daniel Miller was near the finish line to capture Julie's final few steps:

Their commitment to finding a cure for paralysis is second-to-none. Rob was the first human to undergo an experimental surgery, fully funded by the Reeve Foundation, during which an epidural stimulator was implanted in his back.

In the eight years since his surgery, Rob has regained so much of what was taken away from him on July 11, 2006, but there's still a long way to go.

Julie and Rob are running this year's New York City Marathon, and their goal is to raise $1,000 per mile to support the Reeve Foundation.

You can donate to their cause by visiting Julie's page.  The New York City Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 5.
