YMCA camp counselor arrested on assault charges

GLOUCESTER, Mass. — A former counselor for a YMCA camp was arrested and charged with crimes against a minor.

Chris Lovasco, the CEO of YMCA of the North Shore, said in a letter to staff that Chris Brayton-Tedesco, of Gloucester, was arrested at his home Friday.

Brayton-Tedesco was charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

The letter didn't go into details of the alleged assault but said another staff member had reported seeing "inappropriate behavior" between the staffer and a camper. Brayton-Tedesco was suspended on Aug. 15 and the YMCA said it reported the allegation to Department of Children and Families, police and launched an internal investigation.

Brayton-Tedesco was later terminated, and had passed a background check, according to the YMCA's statement:

"Before the incident, we had no cause to suspect improper behavior by the counselor, who had cleared regular and recent background checks."

A DCF spokesperson confirmed Saturday that they received a report and are investigating in collaboration with law enforcement.
