Worcester firefighters battle 3-alarm blaze Tuesday night

WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire on West Street Tuesday night.

District Chief Samuel Richesson says they were able to contain the heavy fire to the third floor of the multi-unit apartment building.

He says everyone made it out safely, including several pets, but one firefighter did suffer a minor injury.

Chief Richesson says with the snow, slush and freezing conditions, this wasn’t easy.

“Any time we have to fight a fire in weather conditions like this, it hampers our operation, it makes it a little bit more difficult, but we were able to overcome it and a successful conclusion to this one,” said Chief Richesson.

The chief says 20 people have been displaced from this fire, and they won’t be able to return home for some time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
