Woman, teen killed in Exeter, NH, crash; another seriously injured

EXETER, NH — A woman and a 14-year-old girl died Wednesday night after a single-car crash on Route 101 in Exeter.

New Hampshire State Police responded to the rollover crash on the westbound side of Route 101, near Exit 9, around 8:40 p.m.

Police say three occupants were in a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta that veered off the road and rolled over.

Rebecca Lafontaine, 39, of Manchester, NH, died at the scene and a 14-year-old female passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at Exeter Hospital, according to NHSP.

The driver of the vehicle, who police identified as Aaron Lafontaine, 28, also of Manchester, had life-threatening injuries and was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was later airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. His condition is unknown at this time.

New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction is investigating the incident and said in a news release early Thursday that "at this time it appears that speed was a factor in this crash," noting that the incident is still under investigation.

The crash diverted traffic off Route 101 westbound for about 4 hours.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Trooper First Class Brian Ross by email at brian.ross@dos.nh.gov or at 603-223-8652.
