STOUGHTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Stoughton man suffered a massive heart attack shoveling snow, and a good Samaritan saved his life. His family is calling it a Christmas miracle.
John Cammarata, Jr., 51, was on life support until Tuesday night and his family wasn't sure if he would survive. However, as of Thursday night he was on the road to recovery, thanks to a single mom.
Rebecca Maclean and John Cammarata Sr. were complete strangers until last Sunday when Maclean happened to be driving by the Cammarata house in Stoughton after the snow storm. Maclean saw Cammarata, Jr. lying face down, his father standing above him.
"I threw my car in park and ran up and said, what's going on? And he said he just fell down," Maclean explained. "I said we got to flip him over we flipped him over and he was blue and I checked for a pulse and I couldn't find a pulse anywhere."
Maclean immediately began performing CPR on Cammarata, Jr. A neighbor later helped until an ambulance arrived. If it weren't for Maclean, Cammarata, Jr. may not have survived. He had suffered a massive heart attack and ended up in the hospital and on life support until Tuesday.
As of Thursday, he was able to open his eyes and speak. He even quoted his favorite Christmas movie; telling his family "it's a wonderful life."
Maclean went to the hospital to visit Cammarata, Jr. Thursday evening, where he thanked her for saving his life and called her his angel.
"Definitely an angel, no question about it," he said.
Cammarata, Jr.'s family said that he had a two percent chance of surviving the ordeal and that they owe him being alive to Maclean. Maclean, however, says that she doesn't deserve all the credit.
