WESTWOOD, Mass. — A fire in a house in Westwood caused a woman to lose everything, including her husband.
If it wasn't enough that Lisa Lennon is only months away from giving birth and lost everything she owned in a fire, her 47-year-old husband Michael Lennon, did not make it out of the inferno alive.
Lennon, who soon will be the mother of a baby girl she and Michael had planned on naming Melanie, is counting on the help from her neighbors and friends.
Thanks to the generosity of an entire community of friends, family and even strangers, Lisa will not be left without hope.
One group tells Boston 25 News:
"On behalf of the Lennon family, we are amazed at the outpouring of generosity and support everyone from the Westwood, Hingham and surrounding communities have provided to Lisa and her family. Right now we are accepting size medium maternity clothes - specifically warm clothes, jeans and zip-up sweatshirts and size medium maternity work scrubs as Lisa is an E-D nurse."
People have been donating money as well, as Lisa's co-worker and friend set up a GoFundMe page hours after the fire. The goal was to raise $25,000.
"I had scant hopes of raising $10,000," the friend told Boston 25 News. "I began to despair for Lisa, but that didn't last long. Within hours the $10,000 had been surpassed and by the end of the first day, close to $30,000 had been raised."
By Sunday, that GoFundMe was nearing $50,000.
The Town of Westwood is also accepting gift cards for Lisa beginning on Tuesday.
"Mister Lennon was a son, a brother, a friend, a colleague and a neighbor, the Town of Westwood stands with all of those who today mourn his loss," said the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen.
However, one thing Lisa Lennon may not have lost is her cat. She has reason to believe that Melvin may have survived the fire, and is asking neighbors to please keep an eye out for him, who she says is a friendly cat.
