Prosecutors: Woman removed plates, hid car after hitting children in Stoneham

Stephanie DeTomasi, 30, of Burlington was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, destruction of evidence, negligent operation, and speeding. The charges stem from the hit-and-run incident back on October 13.

Those four children suffered minor injuries in the incident.

"When I come out and seen the sneaker in the driveway, I didn't know what to expect," said James McKinnon, who lives in front of the crash site.

The victims were standing with their bicycles in front of McKinnon's home in Stoneham when the crash occurred.

"They are lucky to escape almost harmless," he said. "Hopefully she will do better than her accident and show up."

Prosecutors say after the accident, DeThomasi allegedly reached out to a friend in Lynn, drove there, and removed plates to avoid prosecution. Police say her car was found under a tarp at a Lynn home.

DeTomasi was held on $1,000 cash bail and must not drive or use any kind of drugs or alcohol. She will be subject to random screenings.

The victims' names will be omitted from further court proceedings as they are minors.
