Wicked Cool: Mass. named best state in country by U.S. News & World Report

BOSTON — It’s time to celebrate in the Bay State!

U.S. News & World Report released its annual state rankings and it comes as no surprise that Massachusetts took home the top spot.

Massachusetts scored No. 1. In education, health care access, internet access. The state took spot No. 2 in business environment.

There are still some challenges the state needs to overcome, though, to be even better. According to U.S. News & World Report, Massachusetts is ranked fifth in gender equality in the workplace, political representation and other measures, and sixth in overall median household income.

The state ranks low in measures of racial gaps in income and educational attainment.

Our neighbor to the north, New Hampshire, was ranked the second best state to live in. Rounding out the top five is Minnesota (#3), North Dakota (#4) and Washington State (#5).

States at the bottom of the list are South Carolina (#45), New Mexico (#46), Alabama (#47), Arkansas (#48), Mississippi (#49) and Louisiana (#50).
