Vigil held for Milford teen killed in crash

MILFORD, Mass. — Investigators are continuing to talk to witnesses after a serious car crash in Milford that left a teen dead.

Six teenagers were coming from work at JJ Ice Cream Shop in Upton to see the Milford fireworks.

Initial information indicates that the driver told the passengers that she couldn't control the car and the brakes didn't work - and that passengers should "jump out."

The driver did jump and investigators are trying to figure out if Jacqueline Gray jumped. Gray, 19, was found in the roadway several feet away from the utility pole the car hit.

Hundreds of people gathered to remember Gray's life at Milford High School Tuesday night.

"Don't let her life be wasted, take this this is what I need you to do, promise me please, especially the younger people in this crowd, let her be a role model take this forward with you and always remember her,” Gray’s mother said.

The crash happened just feet from Gray's parents’ home. Friends told FOX25 that when they heard the crash, they ran out and found their daughter in the street, and tried CPR. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Gray was a volunteer at St. Mary's Church where she worked with special needs children. A smaller group of her friends and family gathered there before the vigil at the high school.

"The tragedy of this accident has touched everybody’s lives in this community, it just hits really close to home," Milford parent Michelle Zale said.

Gray's brother was also in the car, but he only suffered minor injuries.
