The 76-year-old actor told The Hollywood Reporter that he may be retiring from acting once his show “Only Murders in the Building” is done.
“When this television show is done, I’m not going to seek others. I’m not going to seek other movies. I don’t want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Only Murders in the Building” premiered on Hulu in 2021 and stars Martin along with Martin Short and Selena Gomez. They play true crime enthusiasts who live in a Manhattan building and find themselves trying to crack the case of a murder that happened close to home.
The show has been nominated for 17 Emmy awards for its first season and has recently been renewed for its third season, CBS News reported.
Martin is currently touring with Short for a series of shows called “You Won’t Believe What They Looked Like Today!,” Entertainment Weekly reported.
“There may be a natural end to that — somebody gets sick, somebody just wears out — but I wouldn’t do it without Marty,” Martin told The Hollywood Reporter.
Martin got his start as a writer and comic making appearances on “The Tonight Show,” “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” and “Saturday Night Live.”
He has hosted SNL 15 times with countless guest spots, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Only one other person has hosted SNL more than Martin — Alec Baldwin, CBS News reported.
Martin has also found a long career in films such as “The Jerk,” “Three Amigos” and “Parenthood.”
He has hosted the Oscars three times and has taken home several honors himself including five Grammy awards split between his comedy albums and bluegrass music, an Emmy and an honorary Oscar. He also has been nominated for a Tony for writing the book and music for the Broadway show “Bright Star.”
