A producer of organic zucchini is recalling the product, which is sold in 18 states by Walmart, over salmonella concerns.
According to a news release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, World Variety Produce, of Los Angeles, is recalling organic zucchini sold at Walmart stores in 18 states.
The two-count pack is sold under the brand name Organic Marketside, the release stated.

According to the FDA, Organic Marketside Zucchini products were distributed through Walmart retail stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.
The package was sold in a clear overwrap tray weighing about 6 ounces with a UPC code of 6-81131-22105-4 and case lot number 38706503, according to the FDA.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Protection, healthy persons infected with salmonella usually experience symptoms that include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
No illnesses have been reported, according to the FDA. The recall was initiated because a single lot of imported organic zucchini tested positive for salmonella as a result of a routine FDA sampling.
Consumers who have purchased Organic Marketside Zucchini are urged to destroy and dispose of the recalled product. Consumers with questions can call World Variety Produce, Inc., at 800-588-0151, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT.
