Officers responding to the scene said they observed blood and scissors on the floor, the television station reported.
“Officers located Akers on a bedroom floor suffering from a laceration to her neck,” the Montgomery County Police said in its statement. “Officers removed a blanket Akers was holding and observed her 3-year-old daughter with a life-threatening laceration to her neck.”
Police immediately began emergency treatment on the girl, WTTG reported. Akers was hospitalized with serious injuries and her daughter was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the television station reported.
Physicians who treated the child at the hospital said the officers’ emergency treatment likely saved the girl’s life, the police statement said.
Authorities did not reveal a possible motive behind the attack, ABC News reported.
Akers is being held without bond, police said.
