1 killed, 6 wounded after shooting in Seattle suburb

RENTON, Wash. — One person was killed and five others were wounded after multiple shots were fired in a Seattle suburb early Saturday, authorities said.

Update 1:53 p.m. EDT July 23: According to a news release from the Renton Police Department, the deceased person was a 32-year-old man from Tacoma, Washington. The department also increased the number of injured people to six; the original release stated that five people were hurt.

The wounded victims’ conditions varied in severity, according to the release.

Original report: According to a news release from the Renton Police Department, officers were called to the downtown area of Renton, located about 12 miles south of Seattle, at about 1 a.m. PDT.

One person was confirmed dead and five others were treated for gunshot wounds at the scene, Renton police spokesperson Sandra Havlik told CNN and The Associated Press.

According to the Renton Police Department’s news release, the incident was “not an active shooter situation.”

“Initial investigation indicates this was a dispute outside of a large gathering/event which led to gunfire, possibly by more than one suspect,” the release stated.

Multiple agencies were called to the scene to assist due to the large crowd. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
