FORT VALLEY, Ga. — One person was killed and seven others were wounded after a post-homecoming block party near a central Georgia university, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at a party about two blocks away from Fort Valley State University, WSB-TV reported.
Tyler French, 27, died at about 3 a.m. EDT, Peach County coroner Kerry Rooks told WMAZ. French was not a student at the university, Rooks told the television station.
Rooks said several other victims were taken to nearby hospitals, according to WMAZ. Their identities have not been released.
Fort Valley State University spokesperson Mechell McCrary said the university’s Saturday morning homecoming parade was canceled, according to the television station.
