GRAFTON, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The bear that reportedly attacked a New Hampshire woman in Grafton on Saturday may have to be euthanized, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials.
Wildlife officers told FOX 25 that they have set up a trap outside Tracy Colburn's home and that it is possible the sow could be euthanized.
Colburn's encounter with the bear occurred on Saturday night when she went to take her dog outside, and she was greeted on her porch by a massive sow and her two cubs.
Colburn said the bear injured her dog, and she received multiple stitches after the bear swatted at her arm.
Black bears are actually fairly common in Grafton. Many people in the small, rural town feel the bear should be relocated instead of killed.
A biologist with the New Hampshire Fish and Game says the final decision has not been made.
The trap will remain in Colburn's yard for three days. Doughnuts are being used to entice the bear into the trap.
If a sow is captured, Fish and Wildlife says it will be thoroughly examined to confirm it is the same one that injured Colburn.
