New England Cannabis Convention focuses on education

BOSTON — The 2016 New England Cannabis Convention Saturday worked to educate and advocate for changes in the marijuana laws.

"Hopefully come November, we'll have recreational passed," said the founder of the convention Jeff Lawrence.

However, the convention was focused on medical cannabis, which is legal in Massachusetts. The industry is starting to develop in grow in the state.

Lawrence said the event was educationally based, with information about the industry, product and medicinal applications. Use or purchase of marijuana was not allowed at the event, due to state laws.

Lawrence said that he hopes people can sift through the politics and learn the facts of medical marijuana.

"The war on drugs is a failure - we need to approach this like we do alcohol and tobacco," he said.

Recently Gov. Charlie Baker started actively working against the legalization of recreational marijuana, citing the problems Colorado has had since legalization.

The event was at Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
