Testing ordered for Boston woman charged in uncle's death

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com / AP) - A Boston woman charged with fatally shooting her uncle has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Yvonne Lewis faces murder and other charges in the weekend shooting of Clive Francis.

Lewis appeared Monday in West Roxbury Municipal Court, where a judge ordered her to return on Nov. 16 following completion of the psychiatric evaluation.

Police responding to reports of gunfire on Saturday found the 49-year-old Francis at a home in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He died at a hospital.

"A very devoted husband, father, grandfather; he just loved to help anybody he possibly can,” Tracey Francis, Clive’s widow, said.

Police say they had asked Clive to speak to his niece about recent erratic behavior since returning from a vacation in Atlanta several weeks ago.

Police say the 36-year-old Lewis fled the scene in her uncle's SUV and was found about five hours later in Peabody.

"She was in one of the hallways, curled up on the floor and was essentially non-responsive to the police officers," Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum said.
Family members say the pair was very close, but the relationship had become strained as Lewis struggled with personal issues.

"It just hurt. It was hurtful. I just don't understand cause they was so, so, close. Why would she do something like this?” Tracey Francis said.
