Teen killed in rollover crash in Stoneham

STONEHAM, Mass. — A 16-year-old Massachusetts girl was killed in a crash in Stoneham early Sunday morning.

State police responded to Pond Street around 12:45 a.m. for a report that a sport-utility vehicle had rolled over.

The driver was found dead at the scene. Police identified her as Sydney Coiro, a 16-year-old from Stoneham.

Stoneham High School Principal Donna Cargill said that Sydney had moved to Stoneham just before beginning the ninth grade. The school is providing counselors for staff and students on Monday.

Sydney's grandmother, Patty, told the Boston Globe about her granddaughter, saying "she was a compassionate, loving, very beautiful soul." Sydney's grandmother told the Globe that Sydney had been on her way home after dropping off some friends. Sydney's family thinks the slick roads may be to blame.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
