Suspect arrested after armed robbery attempt stopped by Lawrence Police Sergeant

LAWRENCE, Mass. — A Lawrence Police Sergeant foiled an attempted armed robbery near Broadway and Haverhill Street on Saturday afternoon, police for the city confirmed to Boston 25 News. The incident happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

One suspect was attempting to rob a victim who was in a wheelchair when that sergeant intervened. When the suspect grabbed for a firearm in his waistband, the sergeant fired at the suspect, though that person was not injured, according to police. The sergeant was eventually able to pin the suspect to the ground.

Neighbors said that the victim of the attempted armed robbery was a homeless man who typically lives on Broadway Street.

The suspect was taken into custody and will be arraigned Tuesday at Lawrence District Court.
