• Saugus World War II vet's family seeks Color Guard for funeral

SAUGUS, Mass. - A 95-year-old World War II Veteran from Saugus has died just months after he finally got his high school diploma.

Peter Decareau, a Navy veteran who was handed his diploma at a ceremony in Saugus earlier this year, doesn't have a Color Guard for his funeral Wednesday. He left high school in 1942, when he was just 17 years old, to serve in World War II and ended up serving on four different ships.

Peter's son, Paul, says he has been unable to find an organization available to offer a Color Guard for the funeral, scheduled for Wednesday in Burlington.

He said the local VA did provide two Navy representatives to fold the flag at the funeral but, his family feels as though an actual Color Guard is what his father deserves.

He's hoping someone will be able to help him find a Color Guard to represent the Navy at his father's funeral.
