Report: Bulldog dies after being left in hot car in Beverly

BEVERLY, Mass. — An English bulldog died Monday after being left in a car in Beverly.

According to the Salem News, 5-year-old Penny was left in her owner's vehicle while he and a few family members stopped for dinner. The car windows were left halfway down and Penny was left in a crate in the passenger's seat.

When her family came back after 90 minutes, they reportedly found Penny in distress and having difficulty breathing. Her family tried getting water for Penny, but she became unresponsive.

Penny was then brought to an officer, who tried performing CPR on her, the Salem News reports. Unfortunately, Penny died.

Penny's owner, 62-year-old Russell Blanton, will reportedly face a charge of animal cruelty.
