Remember to turn your clocks back! Daylight savings time ends on Nov 5

BOSTON — In almost a week from today, those living in Eastern Standard Time (EST) zones will have to turn their clocks back one hour.

On Sunday Nov 5, when local daylight time is about to reach 2:00 a.m., clocks will turn backward one hour and the time will then be 1:00 a.m. local standard time instead.

Sunrise and sunset will happen one hour earlier on Nov 5 than the day before, meaning there will be more light in the morning.

The end of daylight savings time is also referred to as Winter Time and Fall Back.

Daylight savings time will begin again next year on March 11.

Almost all of the states within the U.S. use daylight savings, with the exception of Hawaii and most of Arizona, who don't need to worry about changing their clocks this upcoming week.

None of the US dependencies, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Marina Islands, the US Minor Outlying Islands, and the US Virgin Islands, are affected by daylight savings.

To remember which way to set your watch, keep in mind one of these sayings: “Spring forward, fall back” or “Spring ahead, fall behind.”

The clocks spring ahead, which means losing one hour in the spring when daylight savings starts and falling behind one hour, meaning gaining one hour, when daylight savings ends in the fall.
