Jackie Bradley, Jr. hit a game-tying home run in the top of the 7th and then Xander Bogaerts hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Christian Vazquez to make it 7-6. Andrew Benintendi followed Vazquez home when Aaron Hicks throw from right field got past third baseman Miguel Andujar.
Mookie Betts provided some insurance in the top of the 8th when he hit a three-run home run, his 30th homer of the season.
Eduardo Rodriguez struggled with control tonight and was lifted in the 4th inning. Heath Hembree relieved Rodriguez and surrendered a go-ahead grand slam to Giancarlo Stanton that put New York ahead 6-4.
The win clinches a spot in the American League Division Series, where the Sox, as the likely top-seed in the American League, will host the winner of the American League Wild Card game, which will likely feature the Yankees and A’s.
Game One of the ALDS is scheduled for Friday, October 5 and if the standings remain as they are today, the Red Sox will host Games 1, 2 and 5 of the ALDS.
