Red Bull's Crashed Ice event heads to Fenway in February

BOSTON — The wild sport of ice cross downhill will crash into Fenway park next February.

If you’re not familiar with the sport, it’s been made popular by Red Bull’s Crashed Ice events. They feature pad-clad skaters suiting up and racing down steep ice slopes on hockey skates.

The courses feature small jumps, drop-offs, banked turns and walled sides.

As often as the skaters cross the finish line on their feet, they also slide and tumble their way across.

The events have been held all over the world, including across the U.S. Midwest, Canada and even Las Vegas, but this will be the first race in Boston.

“Ice Cross Downhill is one of the fastest and most exciting winter sports and we are excited to be hosting it at Fenway Park,” said Mark Lev, Managing Director of Fenway Sports Management. “We want to thank Mayor Walsh and the City of Boston for supporting our ongoing efforts to present Fenway Park as a year-round entertainment destination and also express our gratitude to Red Bull for selecting Fenway Park to host the US stop of Red Bull Crashed Ice.”

Fenway park will play host to races on February 8-9. Fenway previously hosted another extreme winter sport with 'big air' ski jumping in 2016.

The track will be constructed with a starting line towering over the bleacher seats. It’ll reverse in on itself, looping back under the starting line to head down the first base line before making a quick loop around the bases to finish at home plate.

Tickets are set to go on sale Sept. 19 at RedBullCrashedIce.com.
