BOSTON — A bill authorizing live horse racing and simulcasting to continue in Massachusetts for another 12 months apparently got lost in the shuffle as state lawmakers rushed toward adjournment on Beacon Hill.
According to the Legislature's official website , the racing bill was approved by both the House and Senate but never received final procedural votes before lawmakers ended their formal sessions for the year early Wednesday.
Simulcasting allows patrons at race tracks to bet on live feeds of races at other U.S. tracks. The state law that allows for both simulcasting and live racing expired on Tuesday.
The apparent oversight jeopardizes races scheduled at Plainridge casino on Thursday and Suffolk Downs on Saturday.
The Legislature could correct the problem, however, by enacting the bill during an informal meeting.
