BOSTON — Our Coffee with Candidates series continues in a conversation with former Illinois congressman Joe Walsh -- one of the few Republican challengers to President Trump.
Walsh is a somewhat controversial figure both for things he’s said and tweeted in recent years and his for complete change of heart about the president, a candidate he publicly support and voted for.
Walsh said it was President Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki in 2018 that was the last straw for him.
Walsh was a social worker in Illinois. Later, he rode a Tea Party wave into congress where he served one term. For several years, he was a conservative radio talk show host.
Walsh recently met up with Boston 25 News anchor Kerry Kavanaugh at Boston’s South Station. They chatted over coffee while he was waiting on a train to New York. Walsh says his campaign slogan is ‘Be Brave,’ which he says is a call to all Republicans to take their party back. He says as president he will work to bring this country back together and will push legislation that will benefit all Americans, like a major plan to rebuild the country’s infrastructure.
