Police: Woman shot and killed in Everett was not the intended target

EVERETT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police say that a woman shot and killed overnight in Everett was not the intended target.

The victim, 21-year-old Ashlee Berryman of Malden, was shot outside of the Braza Bar and Grill on School Street. An Everett Police Officer says he was in the area at the time and responded when we heard gunshots just before 1 a.m. Berryman was found with a gunshot wound and later pronounced dead at Whidden Memorial Hospital.

Berryman was a mother of a 3-year-old boy. She was out Wednesday at her boyfriend's concert, her friends say.

"I was sleeping and all of a sudden I hear boom, boom, boom, four shoots," one resident said.

Berryman's close friends and family told FOX25 they would like justice for this tragedy and a woman should never be taken away from her son. Police have not released any information about a suspect or a description of who they are looking for.

The investigation remains ongoing.
