Boston police said Sunday's shooting that left three women dead in Dorchester was gang-related.
At a community meeting in Roxbury Thursday, Boston police commissioner Ed Davis called the shooting an act of "tremendous brutality." Davis said the shooting was not random.
Davis called on the community to step up and share any information they may have about the shootings. His remarks were echoed by Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley who discussed how law enforcement can protect those who step forward with information.
All of the city leaders asked for the community to be more proactive in taking violent people off of the streets.
Police said Genevieve Philip, 22, of Milton; Kirsten Lartey, 22, of Hyde Park; and Sharrice Perkins, 22, of Dorchester were all shot in the area of 36 Harlem Street at about 9:22 p.m. Another woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. She was expected to survive.
The four women were shot while sitting in a parked car, police said. One died at the scene and another died at Boston Medical Center following the shooting. A third victim died at the hospital on Monday.
On Tuesday Lartey's father said she was heading out for some fun with the other girls, her high school classmates, when the shooting occurred. He said his daughter typically didn't leave the house and spent her time helping at his church.
