Lowell native shot, killed playing 'Pokemon Go'

A Lowell native playing "Pokemon Go" was shot dead Saturday near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.
Calvin Riley, 20, was fatally shot as he played the mobile game late Saturday in Aquatic Park, Sgt. Robert Jansing of U.S. Park Police said.
Riley lived in Lowell until he was 15 before he moved to California. On FOX25 News at 4, Riley's former principal at Ste. Jeanne D'Arc School in Lowell talked about Riley as a student.

SAN FRANCISCO — A friend told FOX25 that the family moved to California five years ago because Riley's father got a job as a baseball coach.

Investigators are still looking for the gunman and seeking tips from witnesses.

"There doesn't appear to be any outstanding motive right now," Jansing said, adding that the shooter did not try to rob Riley.

Riley played baseball for San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, where he was studying kinesiology.

GoFundMe for Riley's funeral expenses had raised more than $35,000 late Sunday.

"Calvin Riley, you were my best friend," Gabriel Antonio Morales wrote in the GoFundMe campaign's description. "Nothing in the world will top the good times we've had together. You were more than a cousin/best friend to me, you were my brother."
