Pokemon Championship attendees say they're glad violent plot was stopped

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) - Guests and competitors at the Pokemon World Championship this weekend at Boston's Hynes Convention Center said they are thankful for the police vigilance that stopped an alleged violent attack before it could happen.

Two men from Iowa were stopped as they attempted to enter the event Thursday and a search of their vehicle turned up two unlicensed firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition.

"There's just hundreds and hundreds of kids here. It's terrible. You just don't know what's going to happen when you go out in public anymore," Tim Ferris, a parent at the event, said.

Organizers said the world championship is a family event where participants as young as six years old can compete.

"It's the one time where everyone in the world gets together and celebrates everything Pokémon," Elvin Gee, an event organizer, said.

Police were able to stop the planned attack before anyone was injured and parents say the celebration went on.

"The energy here is just wonderful and so to hear that somebody wants to kind of, you know, destroy that, I don't like that," Nina Nolan, a parent, said.
