NEWTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Lanes of traffic on the Mass. Pike eastbound were closed Monday evening after a fire broke out on a Bolt Bus.
Smoke could be seen billowing from the bus shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, and passengers could be seen standing on the side of the highway with their luggage. The bus had been traveling from New York to Boston with 47 passengers on board.
State police closed the right two travel lanes in West Newton after the bus caught fire. Then, at around 5:10 p.m., all lanes were closed as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. State police opened the left lane to traffic at around 5:25 p.m. Monday, and told drivers to expect delays.
The highway reopened completely at about 7 p.m.
No injuries were reported, and another bus was sent to pick up passengers. The bus company says they are investigating what caused the bus to catch fire and explode.
The bus owner is listed as a 47-year-old woman from Newark, N.J.
