BOSTON — Passengers on a Boston Duck Tour boat involved in a deadly crash with a scooter on Saturday answered questions for police officers as they investigated.
Michael Resnick, who was visiting Boston with his grandson, was one of the 30 passengers on the duck boat when the two collided near Boston Common, killing the young woman operating the scooter and injuring her male passenger.
Some of the passengers saw the crash happen; Resnick said he heard the clash of metal before realizing what had happened.
"We were having a wonderful tour, and we were in the middle of a slow, controlled right turn, and we all became aware of the sound of metal on metal screeching," Resnick said. "And the driver carefully brought the vehicle to a halt."
Marcos Garcia, a tourist from Mexico also on board, said he saw the scooter before it disappeared under the duck boat.
"We see them before the accident on the left of the road," Garcia said. "We were inside the car, and we were all trying to understand what happened."
Passengers were taken to the Boston Police Department for questioning before being dropped off at the location where they had begun their tour.
"It's a terrible, distressing feeling," Resnick said, "and our hearts are out to everyone involved in this situation."
