FOX25 sits down with Walpole officer dragged during chase

WALPOLE, Mass. — The Walpole police officer who was dragged several hundred feet by the suspect in a wild pursuit through several towns is talking to FOX25 about what happened.

FOX25's Robert Goulston sat down with Officer Matt Crown, who was initially responding to a suspicious activity call when he approached Michael LeBlanc's car.

Crown described how something didn't seem right, then LeBlanc rolled up the window, trapping Crown’s hand, and took off.

"I was trying to break the glass to free my hand,” Crown said. "He looked at me from the driver's seat and very calmly said sorry and ended hitting the accelerator to go faster"

Eventually Crown was able to free himself, but not before being dragged 300 feet.

A short time later Crown was in Dedham where the suspect nearly crashed right across from the FOX25 studio.

Crown and another officer drew their guns while LeBlanc’s car was against a tree near the on ramp to Route 128, but neither one fired.

"I knew I had the ability to shoot at LeBlanc but with that being said I knew what was behind LeBlanc was Route 1 and knew the amount traffic that was on Route 1,” Crown said.

Crown said he was also worried that shooting at a moving car could have caused other issues -- from a bullet ricocheting to the car driving without anyone in control.

Crown said as LeBlanc was driving toward them, he raised his hands.

"It's an odd thing to see and an odd thing to process," Crown said.

Crown said he had an x-ray that showed no serious injuries. He plans to be back at work in the coming days.
