Man recovering, expected to be arraigned on multiple counts in officer-involved shooting in Braintree

BRAINTREE, Mass. — A 59-year-old man involved in a shooting with a Braintree Police officer on Saturday night is recovering at South Shore Hospital, according to a release on Sunday by the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.

Braintree Police responded to a 911 call of an armed man after 5:30 p.m. in the area of Grove Street. Stephen Rizzo, a resident of Braintree’s Logan Park apartment complex, was shot and wounded by police before being transported to the hospital.

Rizzo is expected to be arraigned as soon as medically and logistically possible, on one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (civilian victim) and multiple counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, according to the release.

The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office will be in contact with officials at the Quincy District Court to set up Rizzo’s arraignment.

The officer-involved shooting is under investigation by State Police and the Norfolk County DA’s office.
