• 35-year-old charged with OUI in crash involving Newton deputy fire chief

    NEWTON, Mass. - The Newton deputy fire chief and his driver have been treated and released from the hospital after sustaining injuries in an early morning head-on crash.

    A 35-year-old from Brookline has been charged with an OUI in connection to the crash. Police have not yet released his name.

    The crash, which happened on Commonwealth Avenue and Prince Street in Newton, caused significant damaged to both cars involved.

    Newton Fire Chief Proia told Boston 25 News the deputy chief and his driver are doing okay. Both were treated and released from Newton-Wellesley Hospital later that morning.

    The deputy chief had to be extricated from the fire department's SUV by fire crews since the car was severely damaged.

    No further details were released.
