Newburyport man killed in alleged drunk driving crash

BOXFORD, Mass. — A Newburyport man was killed Saturday after his car was struck on Route 95 northbound in Boxford.

Officers responded to the scene just before 6 p.m. Investigators believe the victim's car was parked in the breakdown lane when it was struck by the suspect's vehicle.

Following the crash, the suspect continued to drive down 95 northbound before going off the right side of the roadway and into the wood-line.

The victim was later identified as a 45-year-old Geoffrey Stevens. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle, 22-year-old Nathaniel Armstrong of Amesbury, was charged with motor vehicle homicide and drunk driving, among other charges. There was one other passenger in Armstrong's car. Neither were injured in the crash.
