MSP: 2 cruisers hit by drunken driver in Brockton early Monday

BROCKTON, Mass. — Brockton Police are investigating a crash that involved two Massachusetts State Police cruisers.

It happened on Route 27 just before 1 a.m. Monday morning.

A spokesperson for state police says the cruisers were hit by a car "driven by a suspected drunk operator." That driver was arrested on the scene.

The spokesperson said the troopers were conducting a traffic stop on Route 27. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Ramirez Rodriguez, struck the back of one cruiser, pushing it into the second, which was pushed into the pulled-over vehicle.

One of the cruisers had significant damage to the front end.

Four troopers were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries. They have all been treated and released. The troopers were field training officers and new graduates of the state police academy. No names were released.

The 29-year-old driver who was stopped by troopers was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Rodriguez is charged with OUI liquor, operating a motor vehicle after license suspension, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, and failure to take care in starting, stopping, or turning.

He is expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
