GARDNER (AP) - A four-alarm fire has gutted one three-story home in Gardner and damaged another but there have been no reports of injuries.
Authorities say the fire on Pleasant Street was first reported just before 4 a.m. Monday and then spread to a second building next door.
It was not immediately clear how many people were displaced by the blaze but residents say just four of the seven units in the building were occupied.
Fire Chief Ronald Therrien tells The Telegram & Gazette that the more heavily damaged building is structurally unsound and will have to come down.
Firefighters from neighboring towns assisted.
The cause remained under investigation and the state Fire Marshal's office is assisting.
