More Amazon packages found dumped in the trash

MALDEN, Mass. — More Amazon packages found dumped in the trash. Just one day after dozens of packages were found in a Burlington cemetery, Boston 25 News was the only station to report a similar incident in Malden.

A Malden investigator says they are trying to find out if one driver is responsible or if it's more. Some packages are assigned to certain people, while others are not. The string of dumped packages are a concern for police.

"Sometimes we have issues with people taking my packages on the front porch because where I live it's out in the open," said Serafina Dinunzio.

That's what police say they are used to seeing.

"Usually we're investigating ones being taken off the porch, not ones that haven't been delivered to the porch," said Malden Police Detective Captain Marc Gatcomb. "We recovered 29 packages from Amazon. All unopened."

Gatcomb says the packages were discovered at Forest Dale Cemetery Monday night by a woman caring for her family's plot.

"She checked the barrel to throw out some trash, and she noticed these amazon packages in the barrel," he said.

On Monday, Boston 25 News reported 40 packages were found at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Burlington, and later, delivered by police officers.

We also learned Tuesday that 15 Amazon packages were found in the trash in Swampscott.

"We believe given the timing, the circumstances, the nature of this incident that it's kind of bizarre that there is a possibility," said Gatcomb.

He says the packages were sent to the west side of town, some to Medford. Police want to speak with the delivery driver.

Some Amazon customers told Boston 25 News the retail giant needs to be more careful.

"They probably need to look into their drivers, be more thorough," a customer said.

An Amazon driver came to Malden Police headquarters Tuesday afternoon to retrieve the 29 packages so they can finally reach their destinations.

We reached out to Amazon for a comment about the Burlington incident. They told us, "We appreciate the support of the Burlington Police Department in helping ensure packages get to customers. This situation does not reflect the high standards we have for delivery partners, and the individual involved is no longer delivering Amazon packages."

We've asked about the others in Malden and Swampscott and are waiting to hear back.
