Burlington PD personally deliver Amazon packages found dumped in cemetery

BURLINGTON, Mass. — Police in Burlington are trying to find the person who dumped dozens of Amazon packages in the trash before they could be delivered.

According to officials, a groundskeeper at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery found at least 40 packages dumped in the trash on Monday morning. Most of them were unopened.

Officers then decided to take matters into their own hands and personally deliver the packages to their rightful owners.

"It was delayed, we thought we didn’t get the items but now we did thanks to the police," said Bryan Tirone, a resident.

Tirone was just one of the dozens of people who didn't get their Amazon orders on time. He says, however, getting his package delivered by a police officer on Monday was a delightful surprise.

"I think it’s great they’re just helping the community get their packages so people aren’t inconvenienced, I think it’s great," said Tirone.

Burlington Police Officer Roberto Reyes said all the packages were dated Sept. 22, which means they should have been delivered by Sunday night.

"The few residents I did speak to today, a lot of people weren’t home today, unfortunately, but the few residents I did speak to today were surprised to see me obviously, but once they were explained the circumstances, they were very gracious," said Officer Reyes. "People want their items and we care about the community, so it’s a great way of us to give back to the community."

Police say they're working with Amazon to piece together this incident. They also said the person responsible for dumping the packages could be facing criminal charges.
