Play Ball! Amazon Donates $25,000 to Youth Baseball League in Boston

BOSTON — In preparation for the 2022 youth baseball season, Amazon is going to bat for the South End Baseball league and will award the team a $25,000 grant on Saturday.

Hundreds of people including Mayor Michelle Wu, gathered at Peters Park in Boston Saturday morning for the opening day of the South End Baseball season.

This grant award kicks off a bigger effort Amazon is leading in Massachusetts, which will see nearly $1 million donated to local sports teams and organizations in 8 different communities.

“The intent of these grants is to expand access and level the playing field for sports and fitness opportunities in underserved neighborhoods and help organizations with COVID-related budget shortfalls,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

South End Baseball is a non-profit organization that provides a comprehensive youth baseball program to the South End community as well as Roxbury, Dorchester and Chinatown.

The organization focuses on the importance of teamwork, commitment, and fair play, through recruiting and training volunteers that are committed to properly teaching the life lessons available through organized sports.

South End Baseball allows any child aged, 4 to 18, a chance to participate. There is no fee to play and no child is ever cut from the team.
