Falmouth shooting: Details released about suspect's past run-ins with law

The suspect who allegedly shot two officers in Falmouth on Friday remains in the hospital, and more details are being released about his criminal history.

The alleged shooter, 21-year-old Malik Antonio Koval, is accused of opening fire on Falmouth Police officers Donald DeMiranda and Ryan Moore from inside his home on Ashley Drive on Friday afternoon.

One of the bullets grazed Moore's neck, while another hit DeMiranda in the chest in his bulletproof vest.

Boston 25 News found the alleged shooter, 21-year-old Malik Antonio Koval, once led police on a high-speed chase and failed to appear for his arraignment to answer the charge.

Court documents say that police in Westerly, Rhode Island, tried to stop Koval for speeding on November 25 last year, but Koval refused to stop, leading them on a brief, high-speed chase.

Koval was arrested and released on $100 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned in Rhode Island on a charge of eluding law enforcement vehicle in a high-speed pursuit.

He did not appear in court, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Now, Koval is in police custody at a Boston hospital after being shot several times by police but is expected to recover.

Officer DeMiranda remains in the hospital while he recovers.

Koval's mother and brother will be arraigned on Monday for assault and battery on a police officer and obstruction of justice, but it is unclear when Koval will face a judge.
