Mass. most wanted playing cards to be given to inmates to help solve cases

"This is all about trying to bring justice and closure to some grieving families," said Norfolk County Sheriff Jerry McDermott. "Hopefully this works."

Sheriff McDermott is introducing Mass. Most Wanted playing cards to inmates at the Norfolk County Correctional Center. Each card contains images of unsolved crimes and gives inmates a way to get information to authorities.

"It's just another tool in the toolbox," McDermott said. "And if we can bring closure and justice to even one of these families, then it is well worth it."

Among the cases on the cards: Bellingham's Theresa Corley. Boston 25 News has covered her case extensively over the years. The 19-year-old was found murdered on the side of Route 495 in December 1978. There has never been an arrest.

"We've tried billboards, we've tried stories with you, we've tried a lot of different things to put the word out," said Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrisey. "It is old, but that doesn't mean that people have forgotten, and we are still trying to resolve this case."

Other New England's Unsolved cases are now featured on the cards:

  • Murdered marine David Cox, found shot to death in the woods of Medfield in 1994
  • Michelet Cadet, killed in his kitchen in Lawrence in 1998
  • Somerville's Deanna Cremin, strangled in 1995
  • Holly Piirainen abducted from Sturbridge and found murdered in Brimfield in 1993

"To be honest with you, any opportunity we can get information, it helps," said Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes. "Sometimes it's the smallest piece that builds a case."
