Mass. DCR says lifeguards needed for 2021 summer season

SOUTH BOSTON — The Department of Conservation and Recreation is recruiting lifeguards for the 2021 summer season.

“From beaches, to pools, to ponds, and spray decks, Mass. DCR needs lifeguards at locations all over Massachusetts,” the department tweeted Saturday.

According to the DCR’s website, the starting salary for lifeguards is $17 an hour for head lifeguards is $18 an hour.

To apply, people must be at least 16 years old.

Applicants for pools and ponds must be able to swim 500 yards in less than 11 minutes. Applicants for ocean beaches must be able to swim 500 yards in less than 9 ½ minutes.

The DCR will provide a free lifeguard and CPR certification course for qualified candidates if they agree to work for the DCR this summer.
