Mass. company sponsors free tolls at Allston/Brighton booths

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Traffic in and out of Boston on Tuesday gave commuters a glimpse of what was to come in terms of travel for the remainder of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

In an effort to curb potential road rage, Plymouth Rock Assurance has stepped up and sponsored all tolls at the Allston/Brighton tollbooth on the Massachusetts Turnpike between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the busiest travel day of the year.

One toll booth alone on the Mass. Pike sees nearly 100,000 cars pass through it.

Typically, the tolls at the Allston/Brighton stop cost $1.25 and $1 for EZ-Pass customers.

According to the Boston Business Journal, all 18 service plazas on the Mass. Pike will be offering free cups of coffee to drowsy drivers. The coffee is courtesy of McDonald's, Burger Kind, and Gulf Oil.

Zappos sponsored free tolls for two hours at the Allston/Brighton toll last Thanksgiving and paid the MassDOT $28,300, reports BostInno.

On Tuesday afternoon and into the evening hours, commuters were halted in traffic that lasted for miles and miles on the Mass. Pike.
