Mansfield man accused of injuring officers during arrest

MANSFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two Mansfield Police officers are recovering after they were injured by a man during an arrest.

Just after 4 a.m. Monday morning, police were called to a Stearns Avenue home after residents reported that they were being attacked. The victims had locked themselves in a car when police arrived they found the suspect inside the home holding a hammer.

Officers were trying speak with 31-year-old David Triggs when he became violent and attacked them, police said.

“Officers fought with the subject with one officer almost being knocked over the second floor banister. [Triggs] was tased multiple times during the confrontation before he was ultimately subdued and taken into custody,” a police department release said.

One officer was treated for chest and leg injuries. A second officer was treated for a head injury and blood exposure.

The 31-year-old's father originally called police and told them he was attempting to kick the door in to the room where his medicine was.

"They felt they couldn't control him and his behavior had become more and more erratic and he was threatening the father," Lt. Frank Archer said.

Triggs was charged with five counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property and disorderly conduct.
