Man killed in fiery crash when woman crosses median, slams into him

SWANSEA, Mass. — An investigation is underway in Swansea after a fiery crash on I-195 left a man dead, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The crash was reported around 2:10 a.m.

State police said the preliminary investigation showed a 2012 Volkswagen Touareg was headed east on I-195 when, for reasons that are still under investigation, the 40-year-old female driver from Bristol, Rhode Island, lost control of her vehicle, crossed the median and slammed into a 2003 Jeep Liberty that was headed west.

The vehicle rolled over and became fully engulfed in flames, trapping the driver inside.

The 38-year-old Cranston, Rhode Island, man, was killed.

The driver of the Touareg was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for injuries.

The highway was closed for about four hours while investigators were at the scene. It has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
