Man arrested after allegedly robbing Mansfield CVS at gunpoint

MANSFIELD, Mass. — Mansfield Police said they captured a man who allegedly robbed a Mansfield CVS Pharmacy at gunpoint late Saturday night.

At 11:57 p.m., the CVS at 261 Chauncy Street reported being robbed at gunpoint by a white male in a hoodie, according to a release by Mansfield Police. They said he fled behind the CVS into the woods behind a post office next door.

Police arrived and coordinated with Foxboro and State Police, establishing a perimeter around the wooded area between Copeland Drive, Chauncy Street and Route 140.

Video surveillance confirmed to officers that a handgun was shown to the CVS clerk. Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council, K9′s and additional personnel aided in searching the wooded area.

At 4:10 a.m. the suspect, Matthew Sarnowitz, of Easton, walked out of the woods without a shirt or shoes. He was taken into custody and will be charged with armed robbery and associated charged following an investigation.

Money, clothing and other items were recovered in the woods.
